Renewable Energy: Fueling a Brighter Tomorrow |Renewable Source of Energy | 2023
Power shortage is emerging as the biggest challenge facing today’s world.
The use of electricity is becoming indiscriminate in almost all parts of the world, but there is still limited resources for electricity generation. And we are almost completely dependent on nature.
Mainly the production of electricity is dependent on coal and crude oil.
In the generation of electricity from these sources, a lot of pollution is spreading in the world and due to this, many changes are also being seen in our climate.
To solve all these problems, man has been experimenting with different types of power generation.
By the way, nature has given many boons to man in the form of sunlight, water, air, minerals etc.
But till a few years ago, we were not using them properly.
Various scientists around the world have discovered new ways to generate electricity.
We can also call them renewable energy. Using renewable energy it can reduces green house gases, reduces pollution in water.
In this way we can protect our nature.
Progressive countries of the world have started working on renewable energy.
Such as solar energy, wind energy.
Today we talk about generating electricity by the flow of wind. We can also call it wind energy.
Wind power is a part of renewable energy.
In wind power, the movement of the wind is used. In areas where the flow of winds is very fast, such as seashore, mountains or flat land, etc., by installing wind turbines, their wings are rotated at a very high speed and then power is created from it. Toxic gases such as carbon dioxide and Sulphur that spread in the air from wind energy are not generated at all, and the local people also get employment easily.
Let us talk in detail today on how electricity is generated by wind.
Wind turbines play the most important role in electricity generation by wind.
Wind turbine consists of a very large size roater, and 3 fans. When the wind speed is high, these fans start rotating very fast with the help of rotor. Energy is created by their rotation. This energy is then converted into electrical energy.
Factors on which wind energy depend.
Wind speed:-
The speed at which the air flows is called wind speed. In this, the flow of microscopic particles present in the air keeps flowing on the plane of the earth. Wind turbine gets speed to rotate, only due to the speed of wind. And with the speed of rotation of wind turbine energy is created.
When the wind speed is very high, the blades attached to the wind turbine start rotating at a high speed, so that air flows through the middle of the blades attached to the airtail.
The meter used to measure wind speed is called Anemometer.
The Anemometer is placed at a great height and when the winds blow, the anemometer measures their speed.
Wind speed is important in the production of electricity by wind energy, it is also important to know in which direction the wind is blowing.
By finding out from which direction the wind is blowing, we can easily find out in which direction we have to install the wind turbine.
When the wind speed and wind direction are right, then the energy generated from the wind turbine will also be more.
Turbine blades:-
Turbine blades have an important role in wind power generation. It is through the turbine blades that wind energy is generated.
Turbine blades should be mostly light and durable.
Turbine blades are made by carbon fiber and glass fibers. The shape and rotation of the bed is decided by the engineer, so that maximum energy can be obtained.
The energy provided by the turbine blades is converted into electricity by a generator.
Offshore wind:-
When wind turbines are installed near the sea surface or around large ponds and the energy obtained from them is called off shore wind energy.
This type of wind turbine is much bigger and stronger than the common turbine. Because there is a lot of wind blowing at high speed on the sea surface.
Wind turbines are made keeping in mind the conditions around the sea.
To provide strength to the turbine, jackets and large platforms are used.
On shore wind:-
When wind turbines are installed in plains, on hills or in coastal areas , in open areas and the response to wind is called on-shore wind.
All wind turbine have big towers witin it rotor is kept. There are at least 3blades attached to it. When air flows through these areas, the blades attached to the rotor start rotating. The energy generated by their rotation is converted into electricity by the generator.
The installation cost and maintenance cost of Onshore wind turbines are much less than that of off shore wind turbines.
Another advantage of this is that we can directly send the energy generated from the onshore wind turbine to the electricity converted by the generator in the nearby power house.
Wind power conversion system:-
Wind power Conversion System This is a very complex system. It is made in such a way that we can directly convert the energy obtained from wind turbine into electricity.
In this system, many types of small and big equipment are engaged and which play their role together. So that the power received by the wind turbine can be converted into maximum electricity.
The system mainly consists of rotor, blades, hub, gear box, drive system and Generator.
In this way wind energy is converted into electrical energy.
Power electronics:-
Power electronics equipment is used to control the energy generated by the wind turbine.
It consists of various components like power converters, inverters and controllers.
Turbine foundation:-
Large towers and high quality foundations are made to keep the wind turbine standing. These towers are made in such a way that they can easily withstand the wind blowing at high speed and the foundation is used to provide strength to these towers.
Electrical infrastructure:-
Various types of electrical equipment are used to convert the energy generated by wind turbines into electricity, such as transformers, switches, gears, cables, etc.
The electricity generated with their help is sent to the nearest power house.
Controlling system:-
Wind turbines are run smoothly by this system, they are monitored and it is also ascertained whether there is any defect in their blades.
The generator is rotating at the prescribed speed, it is also ensured by this system.
Grid connection:-
Grid connection plays an important role in connecting the WECS to the electrical grid and sending the electricity to the power house, to determine and control its voltage, current. Monitoring and maintenance system
By this process, we keep on producing electricity smoothly, maintenance of wind turbines, estimation of power from time to time.
Wind resources:-
To find out the wind blowing through wind resources.
It is very important to know about the sources.
By this we can use wind energy project very effectively.
Turbine efficiency:-
The capacity with which the wind turbine converts the energy produced by the flowing wind into electric energy, we can call it turbine efficiency.
Power coefficient:-
Power coefficient is a popular way of measuring turbine efficiency
In common language.
It has a way of comparing the energy produced by the turbine with the energy can generate by the wind.
We can convert the energy received by the turbine into that required by the wind.
The ratio that we get after dividing, power coefficient, we can write it as:-
Power coefficient = P/PW
Here P (Power generated by Turbine)
PW (power generated by wind).
Bet’z Law
A mathematician named Bet’z discovered that the maximum power coefficient can be up to 59.3.
In this, Bitz, told that many types of components exert their influence in power law.
such as wind turbine, blade design, number of blades, wind speed, turbine size, wind direction etc.
He further says that in order to generate maximum power, we should pay a lot of attention to the maintenance of all these.
Along with this, the expenditure on this project will also be estimated from time to time.
Generator:-
Generators play an important role in wind power generation. By using it , generator convert wind energy into electrical energy.
New research is being done
to improve the efficiency of the generator, reduce its weight and reduce its size.
The main function of the generator used in wind turbine is to convert the energy produced by the rotation of the turbine blades into electrical energy.
When the blades of the wind turbine rotate, the rotors of generators also rotate. In this Rotar , a shaft magnet, and a set of coils is attached.
Their rotation creates a magnetic field which produces an electric effect in the coil and electricity is generated from it.
There are mainly two types of generators used in wind power.
Synchronize generator:-
In particular, only synchronous generators are used in all wind turbine. We can also call them alternators.
Synchronous generators produce electric AC current. whose frequency and voltage are equal to the frequency and voltage applied in the electrical grade.
Induction generator:-
The induction generator was used on a small scale before the synchronous generator.
In induction generator, separate power source was not required to produce magnetic field in the rotor.
Grid connection.
The electricity generated by the turbine is sent to the nearby electrical power house. by electric vehicles or through Transformers. From here this electricity is distributed to the end consumer.
Grid integration:-
Grid integration simply means connecting the electricity generated by wind energy to the nearest power house.
In Grid integration some points to note: –
The power generated by wind turbines fluctuates a lot, due to which the capabilities of the Gird are affected.
Grid code and regulation:-
It is necessary to follow the relevant rules and codes in the integration such as voltage, frequency, control power quality and operation of electricity in the grid.
Forecasting and prediction
With the help of this, we can accurately estimate the wind speed, wind direction etc. In this, these types of techniques like meteorological information learning algorithm are used.
Wind power capacity:-
We can determine the power generated by wind turbines by MW (mega watts) and GW.(giga watts)
In this way we can consider wind energy as a valuable and major source of renewable energy.
There is no pollution in it.
Different countries of the world are working in new areas of renewable energy and it also includes expanding the capabilities of wind energy.
In conclusion we can say that wind energy can play an important role in solving the energy needs of various places in the world.
