Lubricant Oil- A perfect protection for Moving parts -23

Lubricant Oil

Lubricant Oil– When vehicles or any machine is in motion , friction will be there in the various parts and heat is generated between the parts .

In order to reduce the friction , oil is used which is called Lubricant oil and property of reducing the friction is called Lubricant property.

Uses of Lubricants.

Other than the industrial use , lubricant generally used in ultrasonography inspection, medical examination, sexual activity, and bio-applications on people (such as lubricants for artificial joints) and cooking oil ( and fats in use in frying pans, in baking to prevent food sticking ). The main purpose of using it is to lessen friction and let a mechanism work more effectively.

Main features of Lubricant oil

Perfect Lubricant oil posses following main features-

  • A high viscosity
  • Thermal resistance
  • Hydraulic stability
  • Prevention from Corrosion
  • Reduce Oxidation process.

Contents of Lubricant oil-

Less than 10% of lubricants are additives, with 90% of the oil being base oil (often mineral oils, which are fractions of petroleum). synthetic liquids or vegetable oils. Additives for to reduced friction -wear and increased .

Some lubricants are Non-liquid lubricants include powders (dry graphite   PTFE tape utilized in plumbing, air cushion, and other materials (such as molybdenum d-isulphide, tungsten di-sulphide, etc.).

To give the lubricants performance qualities, many different additives are used.
Modern automotive lubricants can contain up to ten additives, which can make up to 20% of the lubricant.

Engine oil.

Lubricating base oils made from crude oil are referred to as “mineral oil.”

Lubricant can also be produced using synthetic hydrocarbons derived from petroleum., which includes-

PAO, or Poly-alpha-olefin.
Artificial esters
PAG, or Poly-alkylene glycols
Esters of phosphate
PFPE, or perfluoropolyether
AN, or alkylated Naphtha-lenes
Esters of silicate
Fluids with ions
Alkylated cyclopentanes multiplied (MAC)

Types of Lubricants-

Solid lubricants

Alloy of Metals

Aqueous lubrication

Biolubricant

Types of Lubricant Industries.

Lubricant industries mainly divided in to three categories.

  • Group I+ having viscosity in between 103–108
  • Group II+ having viscosity in between 113–119
  • Group III+ having viscosity in at least 140

Applications of lubricants-

The protection of internal combustion engines in motor vehicles and powered equipment is one of the most common uses for lubricants, particularly motor oil.

Used in Anti-stick coatings.

To keep moving parts in a system apart, lubricants are typically utilized.

The application of a lubricant lowers the total system friction.

The advantage of lubricant circulation systems is that they remove both internal and exterior impurities.

To transfer heat.

In hydrostatic power transmission, the working fluid is a lubricant known as hydraulic fluid.

Lubricants prevent wear by reducing friction between two parts.

To stop corrosion and rust, many lubricants are made with chemicals that make chemical connections with surfaces or keep out moisture.

Through capillary force, lubricants will occupy the space between moving parts, sealing the gap.
