Peter Navarro Sentenced For 4 Months
Peter K. Navarro, 74, a former advisor to the White House, was sentenced to four months in prison today for his refusal to appear before the US Congress and provide testimony and documents in response to a subpoena he received from the US House Select Committee to Investigate the US Capitol Attack on January 6.
A jury returned a guilty verdict on September 7, 2023, to Navarro, of Washington, D.C., on two counts of contempt for refusing to attend for a deposition and for refusing to turn over documents in answer to a subpoena from the Congress. After a trial in the District of Columbia’s U.S. District Court, a verdict was reached and Peter Navarro Sentenced For 4 Months.
On February 9, 2022, the Select Committee sent Navarro a subpoena based on evidence that was given at the trial. He was compelled by the subpoena to appear before the Select Committee on February 23, 2022, to provide papers, and on March 2, 2022, to give a deposition.

Navarro declined to provide supporting documentation or show up for his deposition. The Select Committee knew Navarro had information pertinent to its inquiry into the attack on the U.S. Capitol, in part because of his own public statements, which is why it issued the subpoena to him.
Navarro left the White House in 2021 and has since become a private citizen. He had advised the former President on a variety of trade and industry topics. June 2, 2022, saw his indictment.
