Design and Build

The Mahindra Thar has undergone a major redesign recently, with a more modern look that retains its iconic design elements. The new Thar features a boxy design with sharp lines and muscular curves, giving it a tough and rugged appearance. The vehicle is built on a ladder-frame chassis and comes with a removable hardtop and soft-top options. The ground clearance on the Thar is an impressive 226mm, which is more than enough to tackle most off-road terrain. The Thar has also been designed with off-roading in mind, with the approach and departure angles being 42 degrees and 37 degrees, respectively.

The Suzuki Jimny, on the other hand, has been around for quite some time and has undergone several design changes over the years. The current version of the Jimny has a boxy, utilitarian design that is reminiscent of the original version. The vehicle is also built on a ladder-frame chassis and has a ground clearance of 210mm. The Jimny is a much smaller vehicle than the Thar, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces. The approach and departure angles on the Jimny are 37 degrees and 49 degrees, respectively, making it an extremely capable off-roader.

Power and Performance

The Mahindra Thar launched the car with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine which produces 150hp and 320Nm of torque. The car engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Thar also comes with a four-wheel-drive system that includes a low-range transfer case, allowing it to tackle even the toughest off-road conditions. The Thar has an impressive wading depth of 650mm and can climb gradients of up to 41.8 degrees.

The Suzuki Jimny comes with a 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 102hp and 130Nm of torque. The engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic gearbox. The Jimny also comes with a four-wheel-drive system that includes a low-range transfer case, making it a competent off-roader. The Jimny has an impressive wading depth of 350mm and can climb gradients of up to 37 degrees.

Interior and Features

The Mahindra Thar has a spacious and comfortable interior that can accommodate up to four passengers. The dashboard has been completely redesigned and now features a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and automatic climate control. The Thar also comes with safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and a reverse parking camera. The Thar is available in two variants, the AX and LX, with the latter featuring additional features such as leather upholstery, a 7.0-inch TFT display, and a hardtop.

The Suzuki Jimny has a smaller cabin than the Thar and can accommodate up to four passengers. The dashboard is a bit dated and lacks the modern features found in the Thar. The Jimny comes with a basic infotainment system, manual air conditioning, and an analog instrument cluster. The Jimny also has safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and hill hold control. The Jimny is available in three variants, the SZ3, SZ4, and SZ5.
