James expressed his displeasure at having it occur during a loss, particularly against a team with superior playing ability. Though we didn’t quite finish, we had some excellent basketball tonight.
The basketball world has been focusing on James for the second time in a little over a year. When the King overtook another Lakers star, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, in February 2023, he became the all-time leader in career points.
Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 career points rank second in NBA history, while the late Kobe Bryant, another legend from Los Angeles, comes in at number four with 33,463 points.
In his 1,475th game of play, James reached the 40,000-point milestone. To put things in perspective, Abdul-Jabbar needed 1,560 appearances to attain his milestone.
Following Thursday’s Lakers victory over the Washington Wizards 134-131 in overtime, James addressed the media.
“I never considered obtaining the scoring record,” the speaker said. He stated, “It just naturally occurred.” I approached the game with the proper mindset, let it come to me, and the score record for me developed naturally.
