Integrated chip which is also referred as “IC’s or Chip”, is consists of a collection of electronic circuits that are housed on a tiny, flat piece of a semiconductor material, most frequently silicon. On the chip, there are a lot of miniature transistors and other electronic parts together.

As a result, transistor counts can be increased and circuits can be made orders of magnitude smaller, quicker, and cheaper than those made of discrete components. Technological advances in semiconductor device production have enabled very-large-scale integration.

Advantages of Integrated chip

ICs have three main advantages –

1. size. and 2. cost

The chips are manufactured as a whole via photolithography rather than being built one transistor at a time, which reduces the size and cost.

3. Performance.

Because of their close proximity and tiny size, the IC’s components switch quickly and require relatively little power, leading to good performance.

Disadvantages of Integrated chip

The primary drawbacks of integrated circuits (ICs) are their high initial design costs and the astronomical capital expenditures required to build factories. Since ICs have a high starting cost, they can only be produced in large quantities at a profit.

A complicated integrated circuit often costs several tens of millions of dollars to design and develop. As a result, it only makes sense economically to build integrated circuit products in large quantities, thereby distributing the non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs over often millions of production units.
