Currently, Ravichandran Ashwin is a member of the elite group of Indian players who have played in 100 matches while wearing white clothing, along with Sachin Tendulkar (200 Tests), Rahul Dravid (163 Tests), VVS Laxman (134 Tests), Anil Kumble (132 Tests), Kapil Dev (131 Tests), Sunil Gavaskar (125 Tests), Dilip Vengesarkar (116 Tests), Saurav Ganguly and Virat Kohli (113 Tests), Ishant Sharma (105 Tests), Cheteshwar Pujara, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag (103 Tests).
With 354 wickets at home, Ashwin leads all Indian bowlers in wickets taken. In the fourth Test match against England, Ashwin destroyed Kumble’s home record.
The 37-year-old has dismissed 17 players in the first four Test matches of India against England’s five-match series. When I was coaching him, I used to really enjoy how, at the conclusion of his mark, he would stand and work on something different—a small adjustment to his motion, a shift in grip, or a different delivery.
“He never thought he would die without trying to find a way to improve himself,” Ponting continued.
